Dear,
I am a long-time user of your Anti-Malware program.
Recently I bought a new computer with Windows 10 upgraded to Pro. 64-bit.
As it seems, your program stopped the Defender Firewall, which may be required. However, some Microsoft updates are not coming through with a disabled Defender. That is what I found out by checking on the internet where some users complained about having the same issue.
In order to allow this updates to be accepted, I deleted your program and are working with no other anti-malware but the Windows Defender.
I do not like this situation as I have been using Emsisoft since eight or more years with very good protection as I never experienced any severe Malware. I did use from time to time Malwarebytes as an off-line means to double check my system.
Can you please look into this? Maybe some other users have the same problem?
Thanks beforehand for any help you may provide.
Kindest regards,
Walter

Hello Walter, and thank you for contacting Emsisoft Support.
When Emsisoft Anti-Malware or any other antivirus/antispyware capable product is installed, Windows Defender is supposed to disable itself, only coming back on if you manually start it, or if our program is shut off for some reason, like it does for a few seconds when it performs a program update.
Windows Firewall does not get turned off. Both Windows Defender and Windows Firewall are managed by Windows Defender Security Center, which is separate from Windows Defender. Windows Defender Security Center is by default aware of Emsisoft Anti-Malware, and will warn you when its protection is off or out of date.
There is no Defender Firewall though, so please look to make sure we're talking about the same products. The exact name really matters, especially with Microsoft changing the names of things on us. We don't disable the firewall at any rate, and in fact would prefer for the Windows Firewall to be on unless you've replaced it with a good quality third party firewall.
I think what you might be talking about is something slightly different, related to a Windows update specifically for the Spectre/Meltdown patch. If for some reason our program wasn't updating properly on your computer, it would have failed to create the registry key that Windows Update requires to know that all antivirus on the computer is compatible with their patch. We've been compatible for a very long time; it's only this confirmation entry that we had to add, and we did, some two days or so after Microsoft told us it would be necessary.
Does any of this sound familiar to you? If something like this happens in the future, please get hold of us prior to uninstalling anything, with either screenshots or concise error messages so we can try to figure out what's happening in your specific case. It can very much help us to help you, and also avert situations before they become widespread if it happens to be something on our side.

David,
Thank you for your prompt and complete answer.
As I understood from your explanation, there had to be something else wrong that caused this updates to fail – and not the combination of your product with the Windows Firewall not working properly. I assumed this after I had read some comments somewhere on the internet.
Therefore I felt confident enough to do something drastic: I did reinstall Windows Clean and downloaded and reinstalled Emsisoft also. Of course it took some time to re-activate all my other programs as well. But: it was worth it because all is working well now, whatever the reason for this problem may have been..!
Sorry for bothering you with a problem that, in fact, had nothing to do with your product in combination with Windows defender.
Anyway, without your reply I would not have had the confidence to solve the problem the way I did.
Thanks again and best regards,
Walter

Walter,
Drastic perhaps, but it's nice to use a clean, fresh installation sometimes. I have a feeling the updates may have been waiting on that Spectre/Meltdown patch registry tweak that should have already been there, but it's hard to say for sure.
Either way, I'm glad it's all working. Let me know if I can help again!
Best regards,
